Today’s Scripture: "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. [25] The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. [26] But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. [27] The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." [28] When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, [29] because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.” Matthew 7:24-29 (NIV)
One of the health principals that we encourage the Greater Bethel family to hold is James 1:22 (NIV) “Do not merely listen to the word…” It is our goal to help the members of our church to move from just hearing the word, enduring the word, sitting through a bible study or sermon to simply check something off their spiritual to-do-list. Grow happens when we allow the Word of God to produce something special inside of us.
In Matthew 7 Jesus moves from two ways, two trees to two builders and two houses. What this teaches is how we truly are able to please God. We please God by doing God’s will. The first step in doing God’s will is hearing God’s Word and then the second is doing what He says. We must not stop with only hearing or studying God’s Word. OUR HEARING MUST RESULT IN DOING. The success of one building and the failure of the other is found in their obedience and disobedience of the Word of God.
Here’s the FAITH FACTOR – no matter what you are facing in life you’ve got to stand on God’s Word. The following are six way to grow your faith through the Word of God.
1. You have to HEAR God’s Word!
2. You have to READ God’s Word!
3. You have to STUDY God’s Word!
4. You have to MEMORIZE God’s Word!
5. You have to MEDITATE God’s Word!
6. You have to APPLY God’s Word!
